Sony Purchases Bungie For $3.6 Billion

Sony is purchasing buying Bungie – the creators and developers of both the “Halo” and “Destiny” game franchises – for $3.6 billion.

Sony and Bungie both say that Bungie will continue to be a multi-platform and independent studio and publisher, and that the acquisition will not affect the platform choices of their games, especially such as the long-running hit game “Destiny 2”.

Sony’s acquisition of Bungie is merely the latest in a recent series of acquisitions in the gaming industry, following Microsoft’s $68.7 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard earlier this month and Take-Two Interactive’s earlier purchase of mobile game developer, Zynga.
