Rocket League Dropping Mac And Linux Support In March

Egad! Why is Rocket League dropping support for two platforms? Psyonix made the announcement today that they would be cutting off updates to the Mac and Linux versions of the game two months from now.

According to Psyonix, it is just too much of a pain to make sure every new feature is compatible with systems only a handful of their users play on, and they got tired of it. “As we continue to upgrade Rocket League with new technologies, it is no longer viable for us to maintain support for the macOS and Linux (SteamOS) platforms. As a result, the final patch for the macOS and Linux versions of the game will be in March.”

The March patch will turn the Mac and Linux versions of Rocket League into a solo experience, with support for local and splitscreen play retained. Steam workshop maps and custom training packs will also still work, but must be downloaded from the Steam website prior to the patch hitting.

There’s more: the patch will also make the game unplayable on PCs running any version of Windows earlier than 7 (Vista, XP. 3.1…) Given that Microsoft themselves is dropping support for 7 later this year, that makes Psyonix more generous than they are.

After March, Rocket League will be supported on just four systems: Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, XBox One and modern PCs.
