Gran Turismo Sport Lacks Two Graphical Features
Polyphony Digital just admitted that two graphical features that were selling points in Gran Turismo games of the past will not be a part of Gran Turismo Sport. Are they important ones? That depends on your point of view.
The missing bits are dynamic time and dynamic weather. In the Gran Turismo games that appeared on the PS3, day would sometimes turn to night, or rain would start hitting the track mid-race. Those things won’t happen this time, and the boss has a reason why. “We opted to not have the transitions in the race this time in order to raise the frame rate and the quality of the image during the race,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of Gran Turismo. “The user will be able to set that before they enter the race. So you’ll still be able to have night races, morning, races at dawn, dusk, and so on.” It just won’t happen without your saying so.
This isn’t the first thing Yamauchi and the team have had to cut. Plans for an open beta were shelved when the timetable for release wouldn’t allow for it. What GTS WILL have, according to Yamauchi, is a real-time damage system, and a rock-solid smooth 1080p 60fps performance. Part of the reason the real-time weather was scrapped was to maintain that framerate.
