Better Late Than Never: Gran Turismo 6 Finally Gets Track Editor

After many many delays, Gran Turismo 6 finally launched on the Playstation 3 in December of 2013. Polyphony Digital, developers of the game, promised players then that a number of features would eventually be added to the racer via patches, including a custom track editor. It’s nearly two years later, and as of today, they finally fulfilled that promise.

You’re going to need an iOS or Android-compatible smartphone to use it, but that was stated from the beginning. After you’ve patched the game to support track editing, you download the track editor app to your phone or tablet. After you’ve designed and published your track, look on the game’s menu for a “Track Path Importer” option that will let you bring those tracks into the game.

You’ll not only be able to customize the track, but the placement of curbs, roadside items and scenery. Once your track is in the game, it will be accessible across all modes, and can be shared with friends via the Community tab. Polyphony has provided a video to show you just how the editor works.

In addition to the track editor, the new patch also adds these tweaks to the game:

• Penalties have been disabled in Free Run mode.
• With the addition of the GT6 Track Path Editor, the maximum length of best lap replays that can be loaded in the Data Logger has been set to 20 minutes.
• The engine sounds of certain cars have been improved.
• GT Academy 2015 has been removed from the [SPECIAL EVENTS] section in accordance to the end of the Online Qualifier period.

Polyphony completed all its promises just in time to rush through the next Gran Turismo. Number seven is due out on Playstation 4 before the end of 2017 (but don’t be shocked if there’s a delay or three).
